Google Update: GMP Scheduled Posts

Google has rolled out a few recent updates that can be a real win for local businesses. Really they apply across the board, but local businesses in particular stand to benefit most in my opinion. Two updates worth paying attention to right now are scheduled posting on Google Business Profile and expanded audience sizes for retargeting. Today, I’ll cover the scheduled posts update. While this update did happen around Thanksgiving time, in talking with a client this week it was new news so i thought spreading the word can hopefully help others streamline productivity.

Your Google Business Profile plays a meaningful role in local search rankings. If you have not claimed it or updated it recently, this is one of the simplest places to start and an important foundation of your overall SEO strategy. Beyond the basics like hours and contact info, posting updates directly on your profile is one of the most underused features.

Just like other social platforms, Google Business Profile lets you share updates, announcements, events, and timely offers. The big change is that you can now schedule these posts ahead of time. If you like batching your work, you can spend a single afternoon scheduling out several weeks of posts and stay consistent without thinking about it every day.

When creating posts, think about what your potential customers are actually searching for. Use relevant keywords naturally without any keyword stuffing. Focus on being helpful, clear, and human. Posts that feel authentic tend to perform better than ones written just for algorithms. Including the specific areas you serve can also send stronger local signals to Google.

Try scheduling a few weeks of updates ad keep an eye on your visibility and engagement over the next month. Small changes here can have a noticeable impact.
